October is proving very active at all levels of rugby in our state. Here's the latest ...

A NEW EAGLE FOR WISCONSIN?

Congratulations to Wisconsin's own Ben Landry, currently playing lock for the Milwaukee Barbarians, who was just called up to the player pool for the USA Selects to compete in the Americas Rugby Cup in Canada. You can read more about Ben and this honor on the Barbarians website in a recent media release. Ben joins teammate Aaron Young as the second Barbarian who has been noticed by national selectors this year.

GETTING CLOSER

Fun fact: We're all just 17 days away from seeing the USA Eagles play the New Zealand All Blacks at Soldier Field. Break out your patriotic clothing and get ready for that haka.

Hello Fellow Ruggers –

It’s hard to believe we’re playing rugby in October now and the weather is cooling off. Some teams even saw snow this past Saturday during their travels.

With all of our teams going full speed through their league seasons, injuries and safety become a crucial component of keeping a team healthy and winning. Please check out the important concussion information below.

RECOGNIZE AND REMOVE – CONCUSSION SAFETY

The International Rugby Board has an updated video and information shared via USA Rugby here. Both the IRB and USA Rugby are also using sharing the #RecognizeAndRemove message via social media channels to increase awareness. Well, the English spell it #RecogniseAndRemove, but the importance of the message is the same, even if the spelling changes across the pond. :)

You can also check out the IRB’s new website for Player Welfare: http://www.irbplayerwelfare.com. The new site has information on concussions, in addition to beneficial resources on first aid for rugby, playing surfaces, current research, etc.
