rugby ballWisconsin's collegiate rugby community has hit the middle of most teams' fall schedules. The WRFU wanted to catch you up on the recent news and share links to follow your favorite club's scores and more.

Recent News:

  • Wisconsin's Dane Fleck was named the D1A Player of the Week for Sept. 29. According to head coach Nic Tyson, winger Fleck is "one of our most intelligent and most creative players and he's very strong under the high ball."

  • Part of the Great Waters Conference, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Women earned a nod at No. 20 in the latest Division 2 Women's Collegiate national rankings from The Rugby Breakdown. UW-SP is currently tied for first with UW-Eau Claire with 3-0 records in the Great Waters North league. Marquette University is leading Great Waters South with a 4-0 record. See the standings here.

  • Quinnipiac University (Hamden, Conn.) earned its 11th-straight win Saturday after a 77-7 road win against Brown University. With lots of Wisconsin flavor, the Bobcats count three players - Lindey Wise (Divine Savior Holy Angels), Maggie Wesolowski (Catholic Memorial), and Rebecca Haight (Catholic Memorial) - and assistant coach Brad Dufek (UW-Stout) with roots back here in the WRFU.

  • Former UW-Eau Claire alum Justine Wypych, who also played for the senior club Wisconsin Women (WWRFC in Madison), is currently leading the Women's Premier League in tries scored this season. Wypych recently moved to Colorado to play for the Glendale Raptors women's team. She's joined on the Raptors by fellow Wisconsinites Kristin Kaderabek (UW-La Crosse), Steph Luckey (UW-La Crosse), Kelly Mullen (WWRFC), Kris Peterson (WWRFC, UW-La Crosse), and Melissa Pohleber (WWRFC, UW-Platteville).

UW-Whitewater Men Fall 2016This week's national Division 2 men's collegiate rankings from Goff Rugby Report may have held surprises for rugby fans across the country, but not for our state's rugby community.

After the past few seasons locked in at No. 2 in the nation, this week's national rankings saw the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Men take the top spot. The shakeup occurred due to scores from recent matches in the Midwest providing a more accurate view of team parity this fall.

In total, six teams from the always tough WIIL (Wisconsin-Illinois) D2 men's collegiate rugby conference notched national nods in the top 50. As rugby tends to do, the WIIL conference has evolved since its formation and now contains both a north and south division with teams hailing from Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan.

1. UW-Whitewater (previously #2)

8. Northern Michigan (previously #7)

17. Northern Iowa (previously #14)

22. UW-Milwaukee

32. Illinois State

35. UW-Stout (previously #17)
